On January 27, 2013, volunteer gardeners completed the first Medicinal Herb Garden bed at Ronald Reagan Hospital, part of the Healthy Campus Initiative.

Childhood obesity linked to more immediate health problems than previously thought, UCLA Newsroom, also cited in KPCC-89.3 public radio and Health India, January 14, 2013. Dr. Wendy Slusser co-authored a study, led Dr. Neal Halfon and Kandyce Larson, which found that obese children are at nearly twice the risk of having three or more comorbid conditions compared to children with healthy weight.

Parent training intervention curbs pediatric obesity rates, Childhood Obesity journal, February 2012. Study by Dr. Wendy Slusser and colleagues found that training the parents of preschool-age children about parent skills, nutrition and exercise was effective at preventing obesity.
