Contemporary Pediatrics reported May 5 on new approaches to address obesity, including the promoton of healthy lifestyle strategies used at Mattel Children's Hospital UCLA.  Dr. Wendy Slusser, assistant clinical professor of pediatrics at Mattel Children's Hospital at UCLA and medical director fo the UCLA Fit for Healthy Weight Program, was quoted.

National Public Radio reported Feb. 14, 2008 on a new UCLA study finding that elementary schools can increase low-income students' fruit and vegetable consumption by offering a salad bar at lunch. Lead author Dr. Wendy Slusser, assistant professor of pediatrics at Mattel Children's Hospital UCLA, was interviewed.

Dr. DeUgarte was awarded the 2009 American Society of Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Research Grant for research in "Impact of Metabolic/Bariatric Surgery on Diet-Induced Childhood Obesity: Implications for Long-Term Health and Offspring Metabolic Phenotype."
